EMDR Therapy
EMDR Therapy is an evidence-based treatment designed to help you process and heal from traumatic memories and distressing life experiences. In a safe, structured way, it reduces the emotional intensity of those memories so they feel less overwhelming and no longer disrupt your daily life. You will be guided to focus on a difficult memory while following gentle side-to-side eye movements, taps, or sounds. This bilateral stimulation helps your brain reprocess the experience, turning it into a past event rather than a present threat.
Twenty-four randomized controlled trials support its positive effects, and several studies have demonstrated that EMDR can be more rapid and/or more effective than trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy. Studies on the eye movement component specifically have shown rapid reductions in negative emotions and disturbing images.
